Lockdown Poetry: Two Metres Apart.
In Spring 2020, when the UK was experiencing its first lockdown due to the global Covid 19 pandemic, Emily Dean of Voicefox asked me to write a poem for multiple voices to lift people's spirits.
I often write, but I'd never been asked to write for multiple voices before! It was a wonderful challenge, & when I sat down with pen & paper, the poem almost wrote itself.
I recorded it to give Emily an idea of how it might sound...
But it was so lovely to hear it brought to life by fellow voiceovers & stitched together by Emily.
Two Metres Apart, by Sara Starling.
Two metres apart (spoken by lots of staggered voices)
Two metres apart
Is an art!
But a voice?
Gives you choice!
To enter an ear
Right here…
A dart
To the heart
And here?
A tear.
Two metres apart
Is an art!
But a voice?
Gives you choice!
To collaborate,
Communicate, with
Parity,
Clarity,
The unseen
Ability
To say what you mean.
Two metres apart
Is an art!
But a voice?
Gives you choice!
To inspire
Desire.
To comfort.
But more….
To reassure.
Two metres apart
Is an art!
But a voice?
Gives you choice!
To whisper or shout.
To tout
An idea.
To fight,
Unite,
To switch on a light!
Two metres apart
Is an art!
But a voice?
Gives you choice!
To open the door
To a whole new world…
Unbox
Voicefox.
Take a safe step forward,
Remote but together
To wherever
You choose.
Two metres apart
Is an art!
But a voice?
Gives you choice!
